IHG Announces Major Expansion in Portugal with Nine New Hotel Signings

IHG Hotels & Resorts (IHG) is expanding its presence in Portugal with the signing of nine new hotels, adding nearly 1,000 rooms to its growing pipeline. This significant investment highlights Portugal’s status as a key market for IHG and reflects the company’s confidence in the country’s tourism potential.

Expansion Across Brands

The new signings encompass two distinct brand collections:

  • Luxury & Lifestyle: This includes the exciting debut of the Kimpton brand in Lisbon (Kimpton Lisbon), alongside two unique Hotel Indigo properties in Albufeira (Hotel Indigo Albufeira) and Faro (Hotel Indigo Faro).
  • Essentials Collection: This collection focuses on comfort and value, with six signings across the popular Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express brands. These hotels cater to budget-conscious travelers seeking a convenient and hassle-free stay.

Strengthening Essentials Collection

The Essentials Collection signings include four Holiday Inn Express properties strategically located in Lisbon (Amoreiras), Portimão, Porto (Boavista), and Evora. These hotels offer all the essentials for a comfortable stay, including free Wi-Fi, complimentary breakfast, and a convenient location for exploring Portugal’s vibrant cities. Additionally, two new Holiday Inn hotels have been signed in Braga and Beja, catering to both business and leisure travelers.

Introducing New Luxury and Lifestyle Experiences

The expansion also brings exciting new experiences to Portugal’s luxury and lifestyle scene. Kimpton Lisbon, slated to open in 2026, promises a unique and design-forward experience in the heart of the city. Hotel Indigo Albufeira and Faro, opening in mid-2025 and late 2026 respectively, will offer immersive experiences with rooftop pools, local cuisine, and stylish bars, all situated in popular tourist destinations.

Solidifying IHG’s Position in Portugal

With these new signings, IHG strengthens its position in Portugal, bringing its total portfolio to 20 open hotels across seven brands and a robust pipeline of 15 hotels. This expansion demonstrates IHG’s commitment to providing travelers with diverse accommodation options across all budgets and travel styles, while catering to Portugal’s growing tourism industry.
