Hong Kong Airport Authority to Launch New Intelligent Screening System

The Hong Kong Airport Authority is set to introduce a groundbreaking intelligent screening system at Hong Kong International Airport. This state-of-the-art system, comprising 50 lanes and 32 scanners, will be installed in Terminal 1 in multiple phases. The first batch of devices will be operational starting from July 2, 2024.

Hong Kong International Airport will be the first in the world to implement such comprehensive security screening lanes across the entire facility. The new system is expected to increase the airport’s throughput by approximately 20%.

The equipment, provided by Nuctech, features the latest 3D and 360-degree computed tomography (CT) technology. This innovation allows passengers to keep their laptops, mobile phones, and liquids, aerosols, and gels in their bags during the screening process, eliminating the need for removal as required by the current system.

In addition to these advancements, the new system offers other traveler-friendly features, including automatic tray recirculation and sterilization, as well as notifications for passengers if items are left behind in the trays.

For those who trigger the metal detector, further inspection will be conducted using a new full-body scanner. The advanced imaging technology employed by the scanner is designed to detect any concealed items, thereby minimizing physical contact between passengers and airport staff.

This pioneering initiative underscores Hong Kong International Airport’s commitment to enhancing passenger convenience and security through cutting-edge technology.
