Viva, the Mexican ultra-low-cost carrier, is expanding its U.S. footprint by launching a brand-new route that connects Miami International Airport (MIA) with Mexico City’s Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) beginning November 21, 2025. This new nonstop service marks the first direct connection between Miami and Mexico City’s modern airport hub, located north of the capital.
The flights will operate four times per week—on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays—offering travelers more options to experience both cities and beyond. The move builds on Viva’s existing Miami service to Monterrey and Mérida and highlights the airline’s growing interest in strengthening ties between Mexico and Florida.
Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava welcomed the announcement with enthusiasm. “Mexico is already our second-busiest international market, with 1.6 million travelers moving between our regions each year. This new route strengthens our ties, expands connectivity, and opens the door for even more cultural and economic exchange between Miami-Dade and Mexico.”
Viva’s latest expansion also reflects its broader strategy to increase Mexico’s global reach through affordable and efficient travel. Javier Suarez, Viva’s executive vice president of planning and partnerships, emphasized the importance of the new service. “At Viva, we want to keep enhancing Mexico’s international connectivity by expanding travel opportunities for our passengers in both countries—making it easier to do business, grow trade, and enjoy the incredible attractions these vibrant cities have to offer,” he said.
AIFA, where Viva is the main airline operator, is rapidly becoming a key aviation hub in Mexico. From there, travelers arriving from Miami will have access to over 30 domestic and international connections. Whether heading to Mexico’s popular beach destinations, cultural hotspots, or other major cities, passengers will benefit from streamlined connections through the new airport.
This service also gives travelers departing from Miami a new way to experience the dynamic culture and historical depth of Mexico City while bypassing the congestion often associated with the city’s older airport.
As travel demand continues to rise between the United States and Mexico, Viva’s newest route not only fills a gap in connectivity but also highlights the airline’s role in reshaping regional travel with competitive fares and direct routes.
