Thomas Krasonis Claims First NASCAR Euro Series Lead with Victory at Circuit Ricardo Tormo

Greek driver Thomas Krasonis took a commanding victory in the second race of the NASCAR Euro Series season at Circuit Ricardo Tormo, becoming the overall championship leader. Starting from pole position, Krasonis maintained control throughout the race, fending off reigning champion Vittorio Ghirelli of Italy (Chevrolet Camaro) and France’s Paul Jouffreau (Ford Mustang), who completed the podium.

The race began with drama as Saturday’s race winner, Paul Jouffreau, was hit on the main straight, dropping from the front row to seventh place. However, the Frenchman—who trained in Valencia—fought back through the field in a gritty battle for third with veteran Yvan Muller (Chevrolet Camaro). At the front, Krasonis and Ghirelli remained unchallenged, showcasing their pace and consistency.

Krasonis, thrilled with his first win in the category, reflected on the milestone: “It’s my first victory in the series, and I couldn’t be happier. The championship has started in the best way possible. Now, it’s all about keeping up the momentum and focusing on the title.”

Adding to the excitement of the weekend, Valencia CF striker Hugo Duro served as Grand Marshal of the event. Duro gave the iconic command, “Drivers, start your engines,” and later participated in the podium celebrations. The event drew an enthusiastic crowd of nearly 19,000 spectators to Cheste.

In the Euro NASCAR 2 division, Czech driver Martin Doubek (Ford Mustang) emerged victorious after a chaotic race filled with incidents. Dutch driver Bruno Moulders and Japan’s Kenko Miura, both driving Toyota Camrys, rounded out the top three.

Truck Racing Thrills the Crowd

Truck racing also played a key role in the weekend’s action, with the Vila brothers, Josy and Jorge, dominating the category. The duo split victories and second-place finishes, while Portuguese racer Eduardo Ramires consistently claimed third. The truck races, part of the Racer Confortauto Cup, proved to be a crowd favorite.

Next Stop: Vallelunga

The NASCAR Euro Series will head next to Vallelunga, Italy, for the third round of the championship on May 17–18. Meanwhile, Circuit Ricardo Tormo will host the Saxo 8v Cup on April 25–26, continuing its busy spring motorsports calendar.
