New Ethiopian Airlines Route Connects Addis Ababa with Sharjah

Ethiopian Airlines is launching a new passenger flight route to Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, starting June 1, 2025. Known for its growing economy and deep cultural roots, Sharjah will now be connected to Addis Ababa through four weekly flights, operated by the modern Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.

The new flight service offers leisure and business travelers enhanced travel options. With this addition, Ethiopian Airlines strengthens its position in the Middle East, offering increased access to a region known for its dynamic trade, tourism, and cultural appeal.

The flight schedule is designed for convenience. Flight ET 622 departs Addis Ababa every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday at 10:05 p.m., landing in Sharjah at 3:25 a.m. the next day. The return flight, ET 623, leaves Sharjah every Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 4:25 a.m., arriving in Addis Ababa at 7:45 a.m.

This development aligns with the airline’s long-standing presence in the Gulf region. Ethiopian Airlines began flying to Dubai in 1979 and has since expanded to serve over 17 destinations across the Middle East, operating more than 100 weekly flights.

Adding Sharjah to the network isn’t just about passenger convenience—it also supports broader goals. As the airline continues to grow its Middle Eastern footprint, the route is expected to encourage deeper economic ties, boost trade activities, and increase cultural exchanges between Ethiopia and the UAE.

Mesfin Tasew, Ethiopian Airlines Group CEO, emphasized the importance of this move: “We are excited to expand our passenger flight network in the U.A.E. with the addition of Sharjah, a key economic hub in the United Arab Emirates. This new service complements our existing cargo operations and strengthens our connectivity to the Middle East. With enhanced travel options, our customers can now explore the UAE’s rich cultural heritage and dynamic business landscape with greater convenience.”

Sharjah, often overshadowed by its neighboring emirates, has carved out a unique identity with its UNESCO-recognized cultural institutions, vibrant markets, and investment potential. This new route offers travelers and businesspeople an efficient and affordable way to explore this thriving destination.

For Ethiopian Airlines, this move underscores its continued commitment to reliable service, regional connectivity, and customer satisfaction. As June approaches, travelers looking to experience something new in the UAE—or seeking efficient travel between East Africa and the Gulf—now have a fresh and promising option in the skies.
