Brussels Airport will be completely shut down for passenger departures on Monday, March 31, as Belgium faces a large-scale general strike. The strike, organized by the socialist trade union FGTB/ABVV and the Christian union CSC/ACV, aims to protest a series of measures proposed by the Belgian federal government. This action will have a significant impact on the country’s aviation operations, with Brussels Airlines confirming the cancellation of all departing flights on that day.
A National Call for Action
The unions leading the strike represent a broad section of Belgium’s working population, and their decision to include major transport unions is expected to paralyze many services, including those at the airport. In addition to the participation of rail unions, a significant portion of the airport’s security staff and ground handlers will also be joining the protest. This will result in major disruptions to operations, as detailed in a statement from Brussels Airport.
To ensure the safety of all passengers and staff, the airport has confirmed that no departing passenger flights will take off on March 31. This includes a total of 244 scheduled flights that are now canceled. The airport has advised travelers not to come to the airport on that day, as there will be no departing flights and limited operations.
