The Upper Silesian Aviation Group (GTL S.A.), the managing company of Katowice Wojciech Korfanty International Airport, has completed another phase of its 2024-2032 infrastructure expansion program. The first stage of construction for a new parking facility, Car Park P5, has been finalized, adding 863 new parking spaces to the airport’s capacity. Located in the south-eastern section of the airport, adjacent to the aircraft maintenance area, P5 is fully illuminated and equipped with advanced monitoring and parking systems.
Car Park P5 is directly connected to Car Park P4, which opened in June 2024. The airport offers free transfers to passenger terminals for customers using both parking facilities. With this expansion, Katowice Airport now provides approximately 6,700 parking spaces.
Strategic Parking Expansion Plans
The investment program for 2024-2032 includes substantial enhancements to the airport’s parking facilities. Key developments include:
- Car Park P1 expansion to the west, adding 400 new spaces (design phase underway).
- Completion of Car Park P4’s second stage in January 2025, increasing capacity by 496 spaces.
- Further expansion of Car Park P5 in Q1 2026, adding 1,000 more spaces.
- A planned multi-storey car park next to the central passenger terminal.
- Targeting a total of approximately 13,000 parking spaces by 2032.
Artur Tomasik, President of the Board of GTL S.A., highlighted the long-term vision:
“In the upcoming years, we will consistently develop our parking offer, not only in terms of outdoor car parks. We plan to introduce a multi-storey facility next to the central terminal. By 2032, we aim to manage approximately 13,000 parking spaces.”
Katowice Airport’s Broader Expansion Initiatives
Beyond parking, the PLN 1.5 billion infrastructure development plan includes major projects across three core airport operations: passenger traffic, aircraft maintenance, and cargo handling. Notable projects include:
- A new central passenger terminal, which will be the most significant upgrade by 2032.
- A second cargo terminal to enhance freight-handling capacity.
- A new Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) base.
- Hangar H4 construction and a new base for airport maintenance departments.
- A new Multimodal Goods and Fuel Delivery Hub with a railway siding connection, launched in September 2024 in the airport’s south-eastern section. This project is co-funded by the European Union under the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) 2021-2027 Military Mobility initiative.
With these ambitious developments, Katowice Airport is set to reinforce its position as a leading aviation hub in Central Europe, enhancing both passenger experience and cargo operations.
