This week, Discover Airlines marks a major milestone as it launches long-haul operations from Munich Airport, with its first service to Orlando, Florida, scheduled for March 5. The expansion continues on April 1 with flights to Windhoek, Namibia, followed by a new route to Calgary, Canada, on April 12. Each of these long-haul destinations will operate four times per week.
Looking ahead to the winter season, Discover Airlines will introduce flights to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, beginning October 26, with three weekly frequencies. Notably, leisure airlines face no direct competition on these routes, which strengthens their market presence.
As the leisure airline of the Lufthansa Group, Discover Airlines will base two Airbus A330s and six A320s in Munich this summer. In addition to its long-haul services, the airline’s network will cover 32 holiday destinations, offering an average of 80 weekly flights. Popular routes include the Canary Islands, Mediterranean hotspots, and cities such as Varna and Burgas in Bulgaria, Bodø in Norway, and Reykjavík in Iceland.
“We look back on a successful first year in Munich, both operationally and commercially. Our second base is already making a significant contribution to Discover Airlines’ overall success, and booking numbers show that this positive trend continues,” said Bernd Bauer, CEO of Discover Airlines. “That’s why I’m even more pleased that we can now expand our offer for travelers from Munich with fantastic long-haul destinations and some completely new ones within Europe—just in time for summer.”
Munich Airport serves as Discover Airlines’ second base, alongside Frankfurt. All flights operate from Terminal 1, ensuring smooth connections with Lufthansa and supporting the airline’s growing long-haul network. The airline has also expanded its workforce, hiring 400 employees across cockpit, cabin, and ground operations in Munich.
