Turkish Airlines is set to resume operations to Benghazi, Libya, after a hiatus of more than a decade. The airline will launch flights between Istanbul Airport and Benina International Airport starting January 14, 2025.
The new route will operate three times per week on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, using a mix of Boeing 737-800 and 737-900 aircraft. This expansion follows Turkish Airlines’ decision to suspend operations to Libya in November 2014 amid political instability triggered by the 2011 NATO-backed uprising that ousted longtime dictator Moammar Gadhafi.
Following years of unrest, Turkish Airlines resumed flights to Libya in April 2024 with five weekly roundtrips to Tripoli’s Mitiga International Airport. Benghazi will now become the carrier’s second destination in Libya, signaling a gradual recovery of international air travel to the region.
The move highlights Turkish Airlines’ commitment to reconnecting regions and supporting economic recovery through increased connectivity. The resumed flights are expected to facilitate travel, trade, and diplomatic ties between Turkey and Libya.
