Dominican Airline Arajet Now Flies to Miami

Dominican airline Arajet has officially touched down in the United States, marking a major step in the country’s growing role in international aviation. On April 11, the airline’s first U.S.-bound flight landed at Miami International Airport (MIA), welcomed with a celebratory water cannon salute and the waving flags of both nations.

Flight 2100 took off from Las Américas International Airport (SDQ) in Santo Domingo, carrying 189 passengers aboard a Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft named Los Haitises. The arrival at MIA wasn’t just a new route on the map—it represented a moment of national pride for the Dominican Republic and a sign of Arajet’s rapid expansion since its launch just 30 months ago.

Daniella Levine Cava, Miami-Dade County Mayor, praised the move and highlighted the importance of the connection for both visitors and local residents. Miami-Dade now serves as Arajet’s first U.S. destination, offering travelers a new, affordable way to fly between the U.S. and the Dominican Republic.

Initially, Arajet is operating four flights per week between Santo Domingo and Miami. By summer, service will expand to daily flights on this route, as well as daily connections between Miami and the popular resort hub of Punta Cana.

In less than three years, Arajet has already flown over two million passengers and continues to build momentum. The airline positions itself as a low-cost carrier that blends efficient service with competitive pricing—offering a fresh option for travelers in the Caribbean and Latin America.

Victor Pacheco Mendez, CEO of Arajet, emphasized that the new Miami route is just the beginning of a broader vision. The airline aims to connect Miami, often called “the capital of Latin America,” with cities across the continent, making travel more accessible while encouraging tourism, business, and cultural exchange.

Passengers aboard the inaugural flight were treated to a warm welcome by U.S. and Dominican officials, as well as airport staff. The water salute, a traditional aviation celebration, marked the importance of the occasion. As the aircraft rolled up to gate E10, it was clear that this was not just another arrival—it was a historic debut.

With its U.S. launch, Arajet has taken a bold step onto the international stage, reflecting the Dominican Republic’s rising profile in global air travel. The expansion is not just about flights—it’s about connection, opportunity, and bringing people closer than ever before.
