Global hospitality leader Accor and leading real estate investment firm Propreal Capital Partners have announced the signing of Sofitel Porto, a landmark luxury hotel set to open in 2028. The project marks Accor’s first luxury property in Porto and a flagship addition to the Sofitel brand in the Iberian Peninsula.
Strategically located in the heart of Porto—between Avenida dos Aliados and Rua de Santa Catarina—Sofitel Porto is poised to become a new benchmark for luxury hospitality in Portugal’s vibrant second city. The hotel will feature 132 elegant guest rooms, sprawling over 11,000 m², with a mix of tranquil retreats and lively social areas, tailored for both international visitors and the local community.
A Celebration of French Elegance and Portuguese Heritage
True to Sofitel’s identity of fusing French art de vivre with local culture, the new hotel will embrace Porto’s rich history and architectural beauty. The building’s protected historic façade will be meticulously preserved, while the interior design, led by acclaimed Spanish designer Lázaro Rosa-Violán, will blend Portuguese artistry with timeless French refinement.
The design will also emphasize green spaces throughout the property, offering peaceful natural elements amid the urban landscape.
Culinary Experiences and Community Integration
Sofitel Porto will offer multiple dining concepts, with potential collaborations with renowned Portuguese chefs, further rooting the hotel in local gastronomy and culture. These culinary destinations, alongside spacious public areas, aim to become key gathering points for locals and travelers alike.
Strategic Partnership and Expansion Vision
This marks the second collaboration between Accor and Propreal Capital Partners, following the success of Sofitel Barcelona Skipper. The Porto project highlights both groups’ commitment to delivering world-class hospitality experiences in high-potential European markets.
“Porto is a city with a deep cultural and historical identity, and we are honored to introduce Sofitel in such a prestigious location,” said Maud Bailly, CEO of Sofitel Legend, Sofitel, MGallery, and Emblems. “Sofitel Porto will further strengthen the deep-rooted connection between Portugal and France, blending heritage and elegance in a city of dynamic cultural energy.”
Yves de Kerdanet, Founder and CEO of Propreal Capital Partners, added: “Portugal continues to be a growth priority for us. With Sofitel Porto, we have secured an exceptional location in the heart of a booming city, ensuring that this property will set a new standard for luxury hospitality in the region.”
Xavier Grange, Chief Development Officer for Sofitel brands, commented: “Sofitel Porto is a key milestone in our development strategy in Portugal. With active plans across Porto, Lisbon, the Douro Valley, Comporta, and the Algarve, we are building a luxury network that offers diverse, unforgettable experiences.”
Sofitel Porto will join Sofitel Lisbon Avenida Liberdade as part of Accor’s growing luxury presence in Portugal. The group currently operates a number of hotels in Porto under its Novotel, Mercure, and ibis brands, with Sofitel Porto set to become a flagship expression of luxury and cultural sophistication in the region.
