Cathay has unveiled Cathay Technologies, a new subsidiary dedicated to delivering its cutting-edge digital solutions to the wider aviation industry.
With nearly 80 years of aviation expertise, Cathay has developed a suite of in-house digital products that improve customer experience, operational efficiency, safety, and sustainability. Cathay Technologies will lead the commercialization of these innovations, marking a new phase in Cathay’s digital journey.
“Cathay’s vision is to transform into a digital leader famous for our strong digital culture and capabilities, whilst keeping our people and customers at the heart of how we use technology,” said Lawrence Fong, Director Digital and IT at Cathay.
“We see Cathay Technologies as an extension of Cathay’s commitment to excellence, supported by our rich history and extensive understanding of the aviation industry.”
Flagship Product: Electronic Flight Folder (EFF)
At the forefront of Cathay Technologies’ portfolio is the Electronic Flight Folder (EFF) — an in-house developed digital solution that has transformed how pilots access and manage critical flight information. Since its inception in 2019, the EFF has helped reduce aircraft turnaround times and delivered significant cost savings through streamlined workflows.
The EFF is now used across the Cathay Group’s airlines, including Cathay Pacific, Cathay Cargo, HK Express, and Air Hong Kong, and is set to be introduced to other airlines as part of Cathay Technologies’ expansion strategy.
Strategic Partnership with HKSTP
Cathay Technologies has also entered a strategic partnership with the Hong Kong Science and Technology Park (HKSTP) as part of its Co-Acceleration Programme Fund. Cathay Technologies is one of four key enterprise partners in the fund, which aims to accelerate the growth of promising startups and boost the city’s innovation economy.
“Cathay has a long-standing commitment to supporting Hong Kong’s technology ecosystem and fostering innovation and economic growth in the wider Greater Bay Area,” said Navin Chellaram, General Manager of Digital Ventures at Cathay and CEO of Cathay Technologies.
“This collaboration with HKSTP will empower startups across Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area, providing them with vital resources and industry expertise.”
The announcement further solidifies Cathay’s role as a driving force in both the aviation and tech sectors, underlining its ongoing investment in innovation and support for Hong Kong’s status as a leading technology hub.
