IHG Hotels & Resorts is making waves in the European hospitality scene, with nine of its brands entering 13 countries since early 2024. This rapid expansion spans luxury, premium, essential, and extended-stay hotel categories, reinforcing IHG’s commitment to growth in high-demand markets.
With more than 1,100 hotels open or in development across 39 European countries, IHG’s influence in the region is stronger than ever. The company’s continued success is fueled by strong investor confidence and increasing traveler demand for unique, high-quality accommodations.
Luxury & Lifestyle Growth
IHG’s Luxury & Lifestyle brands, including Six Senses, Regent, InterContinental, Kimpton, Vignette Collection, and Hotel Indigo, now account for 12% of its European hotels. This category is set for further expansion, with notable recent openings in Hungary, Serbia, and the UK.
Vignette Collection made its debut in the UK with The Halyard in Liverpool and in Hungary with Verno House in Budapest. Meanwhile, Kimpton continued its global growth by opening the Kimpton BEM Palace Budapest and signing its first Greek property, Kimpton La-Mer Resort & Spa in Crete. InterContinental reached a milestone with its first Serbian location, the InterContinental Belgrade.
Premium and Essential Brands on the Rise
IHG’s premium hotel portfolio also saw significant growth. The voco brand entered Sweden with voco Stockholm – Kista and is set to launch in Turkey. Additionally, IHG acquired Ruby Hotels in early 2025 and has already announced its first signings, including a property in Copenhagen.
Meanwhile, IHG’s Essentials segment, which includes Holiday Inn Express, Holiday Inn, and the new Garner Hotels, continues to be the backbone of the company’s European footprint. Since its 2024 debut, Garner Hotels has opened nearly 20 properties in Germany, with additional locations in the UK, Austria, the Netherlands, and Italy.
Expanding the Extended Stay Experience
Recognizing the rising demand for extended-stay accommodations, IHG has also been developing its Suites portfolio. Staybridge Suites opened its 11th European location in Malaga, Spain, while Candlewood Suites is preparing for its European debut in Germany.
IHG’s strategic growth highlights its ability to adapt to evolving travel trends and market demands. With its diverse range of hotel brands, the company is reshaping the hospitality landscape across Europe—one destination at a time.
