IHG Hotels & Resorts is expanding its European footprint by signing its first Ruby Hotels in Berlin and Copenhagen. These signings mark major milestones for the brand—its debut in Denmark and its first location in the German capital.
The 375-room Ruby Hotel in Berlin will open in early 2028 in partnership with real-estate investment firm Empira Group. The 219-room Ruby Hotel in Copenhagen, developed with ECE, will open in early 2027. Both hotels will be operated by The Ruby Group.
Expanding the ‘Lean Luxury’ Concept
Ruby Hotels, IHG’s 20th brand, is known for its ‘Lean Luxury’ approach, offering stylish, design-driven accommodations at accessible price points. Each property blends high-quality essentials—comfortable beds, spa-like showers, and lively 24/7 bars—with local charm and storytelling.
Germany, one of Europe’s top travel markets with around 490 million overnight stays in 2023, remains a key focus for IHG. The new Ruby Hotel in Berlin will be located in the Ku’damm Eck building on Kurfürstendamm, one of the city’s most famous shopping and cultural streets. Guests will enjoy a rooftop terrace on the 12th floor with sweeping views of the Berlin skyline.
Meanwhile, the Ruby Hotel in Copenhagen will convert an existing office space in Frederiksberg, one of the city’s most prestigious districts. The hotel will feature a winter garden, vibrant public spaces, and a rooftop terrace overlooking the Danish capital.
IHG’s Growing Influence in Europe
IHG’s acquisition of Ruby Hotels in early 2025 signaled its commitment to growing the premium urban lifestyle segment. Less than six weeks after the acquisition, these first signings highlight strong demand from both investors and travelers for Ruby’s boutique-inspired yet affordable hospitality experience.
IHG currently operates 147 hotels in Germany, with another 75 in development. In Denmark, the new Ruby Hotel in Copenhagen will join the Crowne Plaza Copenhagen Towers, further strengthening IHG’s presence in the region.
With Ruby Hotels already established in major European cities—including Cologne, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich, and Stuttgart—the brand continues to gain momentum. Twelve more Ruby properties are in development, all set to open within the next three years.
These new signings confirm that Berlin and Copenhagen are set to experience a fresh take on urban hospitality, where design, affordability, and local character meet.
