Copa Airlines is expanding its U.S. network with the addition of San Diego flights, set to begin on June 25, 2024. The Panamanian carrier will operate a nonstop route between Panama City’s Tocumen International Airport (PTY) and San Diego International Airport (SAN), offering travelers a new connection between Southern California and Latin America.
The airline will operate the four-times-weekly service using Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft, configured to accommodate 174 passengers across three cabin classes: 12 seats in Business Class, 24 in Economy Extra, and 138 in Economy. Flights will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, departing Panama City at 1:15 PM and arriving in San Diego at 5:44 PM. The return flight will leave San Diego at 8:58 PM, reaching Panama City the following morning at 5:20 AM.
With the addition of San Diego, Copa Airlines now offers 16 U.S. destinations, solidifying its position as the leading airline for Panama–U.S. travel. The carrier currently operates around 220 weekly flights between Panama City and major U.S. cities, including Miami, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Washington, D.C.
Copa’s new San Diego–Panama City route is expected to enhance business and leisure travel between California and Latin America, providing a seamless connection to Copa’s extensive network across Central and South America. Travelers can now reach destinations such as Bogotá, Lima, São Paulo, Buenos Aires, and Santiago with just one stop in Panama City.
In addition to Copa Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and United Airlines also operate flights to Panama City, making it a key gateway for travel between North and South America.
With this new route, Copa Airlines continues its growth strategy, offering greater connectivity and reinforcing Panama City’s Tocumen Airport as a top Latin American hub.
