Renfe, Spain’s national rail operator, has announced the upcoming launch of a new high-speed AVE train service connecting Barcelona, Spain, with Toulouse, France. This cross-border route is set to enhance sustainable travel in Europe, offering an eco-friendly alternative to air and road transport between two of the region’s most popular cities.
Expanding High-Speed Rail Across Europe
The new Barcelona-Toulouse service is part of Renfe’s broader strategy to strengthen high-speed rail connectivity across Spain and France. The company already operates successful AVE routes linking Barcelona with Lyon and Madrid with Marseille. With ticket prices starting as low as €89, Renfe continues to offer competitive and accessible travel options for international passengers.
Renfe’s international expansion has seen remarkable success, with over one million passengers traveling on its Spain-France routes within just 18 months. Encouraged by this demand, the company confirmed the new service in a social media post, stating: “And it’s not over yet… Soon, a new Toulouse – Barcelona route. We keep growing!”
A Convenient and Sustainable Travel Option
Set to operate between April and mid-September, the Barcelona-Toulouse service will feature six daily trips (three in each direction), catering to both leisure and business travelers. The frequent departures will offer a convenient alternative to short-haul flights, reducing carbon emissions while providing a comfortable and efficient travel experience.
This expansion aligns with Europe’s broader push toward high-speed rail as a key element of sustainable transport, improving international connectivity and making train travel more appealing for cross-border journeys. With the new AVE service, travelers can look forward to a seamless and eco-friendly way to explore both Spain and France.
