Azerbaijan Airlines Plane Crashes in Kazakhstan

This morning, an Embraer E190 aircraft (registration 4K-AZ65) operated by Azerbaijan Airlines crashed near the Kazakh city of Aktau while performing flight J28243 from Baku to Grozny.

The aircraft carried 62 passengers and five crew members. Preliminary reports indicate that among those on board were 37 Azerbaijani citizens, 16 Russians, six Kazakhs, and three Kyrgyz nationals.

According to local media, citing Azerbaijan Airlines’ press service, the crash occurred after the Embraer encountered a flock of birds, leading to a failure of the steering system. While en route to Grozny, the crew issued a distress signal and reported the control system malfunction.

The pilots decided to make an emergency landing at Aktau Airport, but the aircraft collided with the ground during its approach.

As of the latest information, 29 survivors have been rescued and transported to local hospitals for medical treatment.

Authorities are investigating the incident, and more details are expected as the situation develops.
