Kilit Group Acquires Southwind Airlines

Turkish businessman Süleyman Kilit, owner of Kilit Group—known for its Nirvana and Crystal hotel brands—has acquired Southwind Airlines. The Turkish tourism industry views this move as a “strategic step” for Kilit Group’s expansion into the aviation sector.

Kilit Group is one of Turkey’s leading tourism companies, recognized primarily by Russian travelers for its Crystal Hotels and Nirvana Hotels. The group also includes a destination management company (DMC) serving major Russian tour operators, as well as its own transportation company. By adding Southwind Airlines to its portfolio, Kilit Group gains control over key assets essential for large-scale tour operator activities, significantly boosting its influence in the industry.

Southwind Airlines: A Growing Player in Turkish Aviation

Southwind Airlines began operations in August 2022 under Cortex Aviation management. Its fleet currently comprises 12 aircraft, including Airbus A330, A321, and Boeing 777 and 737-8 Max models. Despite early challenges with European aviation authorities, the airline has successfully established operations, primarily focusing on charter flights to Russian and Kazakh destinations. Its business model centers on transporting organized tourist groups to resort areas in collaboration with tour operators.
